get him to take an extra Vitamin C tablet as bleeding gums can be associated with having low levels of this vitamin. Plus since his diet is lacking in fresh fruit and veg then he really sounds like he needs this. Most multivitamin tablets contain too low levels of Vitamin C. Get him to buy a 500mg strength one and try that. Bleeding gums can be a sign of gum disease. Does he have nay other symptoms? It might be advisable for him to get a dental checkup. A dentist may be able to shed more light on his bleeding gums. Coenzyme Q10 is a food supplement that can specifically help bleeding gums. This is sometimes added to toothpastes too - the types you buy in your health food store. If he has an unhealthy diet then he is probably kacking in Coenzyme Q10. Fresh sardines is a good natural source.

9 times out of 10 you'll gums will bleed because you've got gum disease ( Gingivitis ). This is caused by leaving plaque behind on the tooth surface after you think you've cleaned them well enough. Plaque is the same colour as your teeth so unless you have a good brushing technique you'll miss places. The gums bleed because the bacteria in the plaque reacts to them, in other words plaque and gums don't get along!! The gums get inflamed and when you do brush the affected area they bleed.
The worst thing to do is to avoid the area's that bleed you just need to keep going and if you do a good job you should find that the bleeding will stop after a few day's or so.
To get the best treatment you really need to get to your nearest dentist. I know it's not cheap but you'll have a much larger bill if you don't act asap. only they can give you the best advice and treatment for your problem.

Don't panic. It could be a lack of vitamins, so just check his diet, and go for a good range. Vitamin C is good for your immune system, but you'll need more.
Its quite likely just to be low blood pressure.
Get him to go see a GP, or do it yourself if you can.
Low blood pressure can cause very sensative and easily bleeding gums.
Iron suppliments will help, and your Doctor will advise it.
Dentists are always spouting gum disease, and to be honest, unless he has a problem in his mouth other than this, than its not likely to be anything of the sort.
If his breath is bad, even after brushing, or his teeth feel soft when he chews, it could be something a more serious, but until then, get a blood pressure reading, take some iron supplements and go see a GP just to make sure.

He shouldn't avoid brushing, it will only make things worse. In fact, he should use an electrical toothbrush twice a day, and floss after brushing. Also go to the pharmacy and ask for a good mouth wash. If he smokes, he should quit, as smoking makes it worse. I had the same problem, and this is the advice my dentist gave me. It really worked, I have no problems with my gums anymore. Good luck to your boyfriend!

he has gingivitis. he needs to use floss, an antibacterial mouthwash and toothbrush EVERY DAY and twice a day for the brushing. The flossing and brushing will strengthen his gums, the mouthwash will help keep the bacteria down. Tell him to lay off the dairy in his diet for a while, replace it with fresh greens and fruits. If he has an antibiotic prescription at home, tell him to take that as well. He can reverse this condition, but he has to do ALL of the above things, and do them faithfully.

I had symptoms like these a few years ago. It turns out that it was acute stomatitis. This is the description of it via a medical website:
Basically, it is brought on by pungent foods such as mustard, and also not having immunity to the herpes virus. (Never having a cold sore.) Also, when I had it, my gums were extremely swollen, and so was my tongue. I called a dentist, and they gave me a prescription for something that cleared it up almost right away. I hope that this helps and he feels better!! Also: I know that he hates it, but try to eat more fruits and veggies! That can also clear this up

so it sounds like he could be a bit deficiency in vitamin C, which can cause bleeding or sensitive gums. normally its common if the teeth havent been brushed in a while, but if this is an ongoing thing, get him on some vitamin C...especially if his diet is pretty bad. good luck :o) 1,000mg taken once or twice a day should do the trick

I know everyone is saying gingivitis, but some medications do cause bleeding of the gums.
One in particular is Dilantin. If he is taking this medication, then bleeding of the gums is a side effect.
Take everyone's advice and have him see a dentist.

Of course seeing a dentist is what he should do, but I just want to agree with the advice regarding Coenzyme Q10 - a extra supplement of that might help, you can get it in a pill. I also would suggest Tea Tree toothpaste - it helps. Good luck!
