I have two boys from the same litter. These boys are my babies! They are my first to have raised from 5 weeks (they were weened at 3 weeks, not by me) I am so scared and I don't know enough to understand all of the vet med sites on line. How do I help him and when do I know if I should lok at surgery, and will surgery actually help? I love my Vet! She is awesome, but she isn't awake in the middle of the night when I am...can anybody please help me and my baby? -- thanks

This is certain to help aleviate pain, and slow down the progression> http://springtimeinc.com/product/94/2
If you read the 'real letters' they are genuine..

However, the consultattion of surgical intervention can come only from his own vet, as there are so many variables in this disease.

I know that you are worried sweetie, but nothing is going to change by morning. I would call your vet's office as soon as they open and ask to speak with the vet or make an appointment for you to go in and speak with her personally. If she's as awesome as you say she is, she is going to be honest with you and give you all of the options that there are. With hip dysplasia, surgery is almost always the answer, and if your pup is only 10 months old, he'll recover quickly. You will probably need to have him on anti-inflammatory medications for awhile. Make sure that if he does have surgery that you make sure he gets pain medication. IF you can believe this, some vets don't give pain medication after surgery, you actually have to request it.

Good luck and I hope you get to talk to your vet soon.

There are only so many options to this situation. Please see a Vet that will give you all of them. And try to get a sencond opinion from a non related Vet. Sometime life does'nt seem fair but you have to deal with it in your own way. The pup can't make its own decision, you have to make it for it. Remember... it's about the pups quality of life.
Best Wishes!

Everything depends upon the severity of the dysplasia.
Here is the OFA website's link:
http://www.offa.org/hiptreat.html
It gives treatment options including surgery - but also some things that you can do yourself to help your dogs so that maybe they will never get to the point where they have to have surgery - such as weight control.
I sure hope your dogs are OK!!
Take care.
