I bought the Philips DTR210 from Currys yesterday but there are problems with the remote, alot of the time, when I press a button the light will flash on the box but nothing will happen. When this happens I can only usually access the Text button and the volume controls. When the remote is "working" The power button doesn't work and niether do any of the 1-9 buttons. Is this a common problem or is a one off?

I'd just return it and ask for a replacement. If you have tried changing the batteries etc then the problem is obviously with the remote. If the next one doesn't work consider going for a different model. Most freeview boxes seem to be fairly temperamental but you'd expect one that was just out the box to work.

If i turn back a channel on the TV, the remote on my freeview box adjusts my halogen heater in sequence.
Personally i am totally unimpressed with the service on freeview and am seriously considering returning to cable TV. The service is highly overrated and when the weather is inclement disappears altogether. I would consider alternative methods of digital reception if i were you.
