You'll just have to face it that we have to deal with people all our lives....maybe its time that you find a trustworthy friend in your office or neighborhood to accompany you in walks and strolls around town to get yourself comfortable being with people. Goodluck !

First off, recognizing your problem, IS the biggest step! I commend you for that. WANTING to deal with it, is even BETTER! Congatulations on your FIRST step of solving this problem!

I would start out "small", like having conversations with your neighbors. After that and only when you feel comfortable, perhaps invite a few neighbors over then, a small group. Find some common interests, such as playing cards, watching movies, etc. Plan an activity accordingly, but have a time limit set for yourself on the evening. I would again, start out small, with let's say a two-hour time frame!

If this activity goes well, you could then expand yourself, taking "baby steps". Try inviting co-workers over for a similar setting.

As you continue to be around people, you will eventually feel more comfortable. If you don't already have close friends, these are ways to maybe gain some. Eventually, you'll be able to go out wth these friends and take bigger steps.

Also, if you've not already looked into it, I would suggest counseling. Professional help would be much better at this than I.

I could NOT imagine your issues, b/c I'm (and always have been) a "people person". I like small crowds and am an affectionate person. I really feel bad for you, that you're in this predicament, but on the other hand, feel good for you b/c you are willing to take steps to solve the issue!

I'm more that happy to become your e-friend, if you want. You can e-mail me back, thru Yahoo Answers. Please let me hear from you and know how you're doing! I care! I'll keep you in my prayers!

GOOD LUCK, Hon! : )

I was dealing with the same depressing illness, I am beginning to overcome it now. Basically what I do is imagine the future 100 years from now. Everyone that is alive now will be dead then, so why be worried about talking to them when they will be in the exact same place as you in 100 years. Also, visualize the person you are most comfortable to be around, and picture them in the same place as you at all times. This will ensure you are more relaxed. I hated the illness, it almost made me suicidal, and although I still suffer regular attacks, I have persisted enough to make sure I can deal with people. Remember, take baby steps, begin by taking a walk down the street, then go to the shops, build up to confidence where you can go to a nightclub, and you will find a nice partner there. Best of luck anyway, I feel your pain

You could join in chat rooms with people that share your phobia... any of or all the Internet Instant Messaging and have friends all over the world. Message boards, etc.
The Internet could be your link to the world....
But, maybe you need to use the computer as a research tool... for means of getting treatment for agoraphobia.
