Either as an individual or as a couple, or with friends... if your walking.. do you give any thought to people coming other direction.. and how they get past you on the pavement ?

I ask because increasingly, on pavements and shopping aisles.. it seems people pay no thought to others and expect them to move out of way.. making them turn sideways or stepping on to the road. Individuals, couples and groups of friends.

Personally i will adjust my body so don't bash in to the person... but occasionally, when person is entirely showing no walking consideration, I'm so tempted to stand equally inconsiderately to ensure a barge.

So are you condiderate or incosiderate walker ? Should inconsiderate walkers need to take an examination (license) on how to walk in public ?

I'm definitely a considerate walker, because I basically do respect other people. Unfortunately respect is a feature that many people don't have anymore, walking without paying attention to other people is just one of the consequences of that absolute lack of respect; forcing pedestrians to take a lisense would be a very good idea!

It's ingrained in me to step off the pavement for older people, disabled, mothers with prams etc, practically everyone really.

I have noticed that many people do not make way and force you onto the road and into oncoming traffic. My grown up children were also brought up to be considerate to others. But do parents of today think about doing this? Most children spend most of their time in the car as a result are not used to pavement 'management' skills.

I therefore think I am considerate, and apply the same when driving, shopping and other busy public places.

As for an exam - teach it in the home and at school, then hopefully it will become a natural thing to do. People take driving tests but that doesn't seem to prevent bad behaviour on the road.

Here endeth grand moan : )

I am a very considerate walker...........for a while, lol. Then after being barged past, or knocked, i tend to become a little peed off with it. So, then i start to stand my ground, especially if i notice someone coming straight in my direction and it looks like and turns out that they are not going to move for me, so i refuse to move outta thier way!.I suppose it helps with me being tall too, lol. As most people, i will only take so much of things, and refuse to be pushed about all the time. Apart from that, i am a good girl when out walking .....

If I see 1 person coming towards me, I will move my body to the side in order that they can get past, but would expect them to do the same. If after a while, no one is doing this, then I will not budge.

If there's 2-3 people walking side-by-side, I never move out of the way. It is not their pavement, they should automatically move behind their friends.

Sometimes, if a lot of people have not been moving out of the way and I'm in a bad mood, I'll deliberately not move out of the way to see who will budge. Kind of like a game of chicken!

I'm the former. I always pay attention to how much space I take, and if there are others walking behind me. I make room for those who need to pass by from behind. I'm from Taiwan and have found on many occasions when people pay no attention to other walkers. They walk shoulder to shoulder when the road is for only 2 persons, and they never bother to make room for other walkers. At times I get so upset that I just bump right into one walker. I, like you, wish that people would pay more attention to other walkers.

When I was a child, my mother (who did an extraordinarily good job raising me) taught me to always walk on the right, so there is always one side of the sidewalk, staircase, or hallway open. Unfortunately, most people today did not have mothers who loved them as much as mine did me, and people just walk however they want.

When someone is on my side of the sidewalk, I run into them as often as I can. I play chicken and see what will happen. It's not exactly the most considerate thing to do, but if nobody runs into these people they'll never think that maybe they should get out of the way. Or if they never learn, at least it makes me feel better.

I know what you mean - I used to always move, but got sick of being that person that always has to move. No one was ever voluntarily going first. Now I've swung a little bit the other way (though I will do the slight maneuvering thing). It's more annoying now that I'm a jogger. Groups of inconsiderates are the worst.

I completely agree with you. I try to avoid bashing into people when hurrying along and generally try to be curteous to people. Some people need some serious training before using the pavements. Perhaps they should be forced to wear signalling lights, or have a warning sign on their back saying 'I may stop unexpectedly any moment - BEWARE!'.

I'm very considerate, not just of the people coming in the opposite direction, but also of people behind me walking faster, who might want to get past.
