no in those days it was safer to drink wine than water.most of the water was polluted and the fermintation in the wine assure a clean liquid to drink..it was even given to children..

People drank wine in those days because it was hot in the desert and it was the only way to keep fruit of any kind from spoiling. Especially during a wedding which was probably in spring or early summer. So religious people misinterpret their own texts and say it was grape juice. Stupids.
