Not the best solution - it may cause other problems - if you have a separate partition with you data on it, it should be fine - but if you just have one partition do not use this option. You will end up unable to enter windows and have a message saying NTLDR is compressed.

Free up some disk space with the disk clean up program and also perform a disk defrag - all found in the system tools in the all programs.

Windows Xp hates compressed drives , not only will it run slower it also will affect your restore and last known config that works in safe mode . best get a new drive and install a secondary drive , to compress a file is one thing to compress the entire system operation file is something else , not recommended should you have a catastrophic failure event , the program may not be able to recover. ...try ebay some good drives cheap on there........Vortash

Disk compression slows your computer down. Apart from that: a crash of the disk almost always means that you won't be able to recover any data from it anymore.
Harddisks aren't that expensive anymore, shell out some bucks and get yourself a second or bigger harddrive.
