Do you feel bad about it or is it easily justified as self-defense?

I know there are people that say it is fine and dandy to kill a person in combat but no matter what circumstances it will at some point bother you and you will not escape the feeling that you ended a life and that you killed a father, son, uncle, nephew etc.

Never really thought about it. Just did my job, i mean, a truck is approaching you, you wave them off, and they still speed up, and all you think is they have a suicide bomber in that truck, so you shoot, hope to knock out the truck and keep on driving on and complete the mission. Never lost a wink of sleep to be honest, and i am not religious, so i dont have to come to terms with god. It is part of combat, so i don't let myself have to justify it as self defense or immoral.

I would say there is a big difference between the bomber, the cannoneer and the sapper with a K-BAR . it is made easier by the persons who are running the war( look at anti jap posters of ww2) they were portraied as little monsters inhuman and therefore easier to justify killing-no nukes would ever have been used in europe cause the germans looked like US! since most war deaths are caused by ARTILERY (why do you think they call it KING of BATTLE) it gets to be repitition just load aim and shoot and the faceless victims can be blamed for not running

Everybody has their own emotions, personalities, and probably most importnat on this subject, religion. I had no problem doing it. I did my job, and kept myself alive. I also don't have a religion, so that probably helps me.

For me, neither. You never forget and dream about it many many times.

I agree that nobody can forget that they killed someone. that they stopped someone from going home to their families. They can be forgiven and forgive themselves and be forgiven by god, but a commanment speaks pretty claearly to me "thou shalt not kill."
