I've heard that this is pretty effective. If so, what ratio of salt to water should I use (I'm talking about using tap water and salt, not seawater)?

You could try that but does sea water work for you? Putting more salt in will probably just make you look like you have dandruff! Haha who told you that?

we have lived on both coasts and swim in salt water all the time, usually just rinse it and it will be fine

yes u can and people usually do a half half ratio/
HOWEVER it will dry out your hair and totally damage it so dont do it often and use a good conditioning mask afterwards.

Salt will eat away at your hair!! It will be fried sooner than later!!!
