control & restraint is what you refer to. and are situational responses so cannot be perfect every time. the best way to initialize them is to impact the face as you start the restraint. the split second of shock should be enough to enable most of the lock to be committed. this again is situational and words can never do my thoughts justice.

also, I have a success rate of about 50%. the randomness of them means that I dont always get them on in time before resistance is initiated by the subject. as soon as you realise that you have screwed up the motion, you need to go to plan B, and take them out by other means. struggling is going to tire you out too.

just believe me that you need to distract them first, by a strike etc as no one, and I mean NO ONE will allow you to manipulate their arms etc into a compromising position. even drunks know that the move is going to be painful if they dont stop it.

i agree with st.g what you are talking about is not a combat lock?combat locks are generaly used by special forces in different countries to kill or maim people not to control people.combat locks are usually from behind as someone else sugested.
to my understanding of combat the idea is to kill the other person?

Locks to joints of the body are in Chinese language referred to as Chin Na. Chin means to seize or trap, na means to lock or break, so together it is the art of trapping and locking. And as Saint stated they take plenty of practice, and are applied successfully less often.

Arm bar, Kimura, Key Lock, rear naked choke, knee bar, and heel hook are most commonly used locks.

You have to learn from someone who know how to apply them otherwise you'll do it wrong.

I know some and, no, I am not telling you how to do them.

That would be irresponsible of me, even if it were possible to teach someone over the net, which it is not.
