No, you have to wait until he gets his number. Normally if a child is born in a hospital, it's applied for before the mom is released. If you haven't applied for one yet, then call the social security office. It usually takes about two weeks to get. If you filed in the hospital, it should be showing up real soon since you're way over 2 weeks - you could call the social security office to check on it.

Congrats on the baby! You cannot file without the SSN. If you have not already applied get down to your local SSA office and apply in person. Thats what I did when I immigrated here. I needed a number within 24 hours to get a job and they came through for me.

If you are in a hurry to file, you can always file an ammeded return later on when you receive the SSN. This just causes a little extra work so if you are not in a hurry I would wait.

you can if you have his social, if you applied for it, then you can go to the social security office and get a temp paper for it showing it's in the works and it's a legal document you can use it on your taxes
