Been there done that. They think your nuts/lost. They have never felt the need to search for what they believe in. Instead they know what they was taught as a child. They don't really understand why you would search for other religions. They never had the need to. Also its not the norm to not follow the mainstream religion where you live, so many will not understand your reasons.

I'm Atheist, and I just have one question: about 'the woman who did your marriage', it sounds like she's Christian and you did have a Christian ceremony....my quesion is: Why did you have a Christian wedding if you're not Christian?
If you act with no coherence, people will obviously keep staring at you;)...On the other hand, Christians DO tend to believe their religion is the only true one and they stare at you once you tell them you're not Christian, it's because they get disappointed, the point is, DO WE CARE? Personally I don't;) Main thing is to be a good human being, the rest doesn't matter.

They probably were just shocked that someone they knew would admit to having such an open mind! Good for you!! :)
I'm an athiest, and your answer wouldn't bother me personally AT ALL. I couldn't care less what people believe, and have no problem with it UNLESS/UNTIL they start preaching and proselytizing, and then (and only then) they are more likely to get an educational earful than a blank stare. Generally, that leaves THEIR jaw on the floor, and renders them speechless, which is just about the best reaction I could hope for. ;)

I would not respond with a blank stare if someone said to me what you said. I would probably say that I was a Christian( If you didn't already know) Perhaps they are not used to talking to people who don't share their Faith so they didn't know what to say. Some people might be taken by surprise by a different point of view and are not ready to respond.
I completely understand that there are those who have not been convinced Christianity is true and I don't think that makes them "weird". I would always be willing to talk about my faith to anyone who wants to listen.

I know how you feel. I'm a witch and I get the same blank stare. My guess is that deeply religious people (I speak of Christians particularly here because I have the most experience with them) are so perplexed by someone who doesn't believe the same -- especially someone in the same family -- that they can't even react.

I'm on your side entirely and it certainly seems as though you've put some thought into it before arriving at your conclusions. I have my own spiritual side, but when I look at the organized religions of the world, I choose 'none of the above'.
It bothers me that those who would 'convert' others are basically willing to bet someone else's SOUL on their own personal beliefs.
And let's face it, pretty much every human being has at one time strongly believed something they eventually found out was not true, so one cannot simply insist they know it to be true because they feel it so strongly.

I will pray for you about this.and hope you make the right choice.but i will tell you that there is only one true God and that is Jesus Christ. he is the only one in the world that would die on the cross for your sins. if your talking about what church to attend just go and try it out. and the Lord will do the rest. because he loves you. the Lord will hinder you in a way that nothing else in the world can. you will know the Lords presents if you pay attention to him. he will guide you through everything. but you have to let him. Heaven is a real place.and Jesus is preparing it for all his people.only the once that except him. God Bless You!

lol, I have experienced the same thing....its really interesting, I do believe in God and I believe in Jesus Christ but I do not like to go to church, I have an open mind and like to learn about other religions also, but practice none....I get the same blank stare, as if I am from another planet.....I thought I was the only one.

even when i was religious i never would have done that. i grew up among people from a lot of different religions besides my own and ur choice makes more sense than choosing one of the many religions as the ONLY correct one.

I see nothing wrong with not choosing a religion if you have no convictions, but be truthful in all things, especially to yourself. No need to lie about your beliefs or lack thereof.
