You need to seek medical help if the depression is ongoing or severe.
There are a wide range of medications available that can help you deal with the negative emotions you are experiencing. One answerer has suggested Efexxor. I have been taking that for nearly 10 years (it was overprescribed). Whilst it is a brilliant medication for depression, it has an extremely short half-life and the withdrawal side effects are notoriously severe (I am still withdrawing after 2 years..successfully but slowly). Whatever medication you may be prescribed, make sure your practicioner/ psychiatrist knows it and its side effects thoroughly.
A vital component of treatment is counselling or therapy of some kind. This will help you to deal with the underlying causes of your depression. If the depression is caused through physical illness, therapy can help you to deal with the problems in relation to the illness.
No matter what, keep active. Keeping your body and mind alert will help you to be purposeful and busy. Lying in bed all day will make depression worse as you have nothing to occupy your time and mind. This will also throw your sleeping patterns out the window and cause other health problems.
Herbal medications can be valuable, but they also have side effects and some should not be used with other medications, so seek medical advice when using these also.
There are numerous support groups and online forums so get yourself involved and educated in how to handle depression and network with people who have similar problems.
Depression ALWAYS can be treated and you should be able to live a fulfilling life. However, it can take time to get the balance of medication, lifestyle and therapy right so be patient and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Good luck, and from first hand experience, the other end of the tunnel is bright and full of joy when you get there.

I deal with it by forcing myself to get up and get out of the house for a while. I also have to take medication for it because, if not I would be crazy. There are some breathing exercises as well that help. You take a deep breath in, hold it and let it out very slowly. You would be surprised how much better you feel when you do that.

Try to just deal with one moment at a time-one minute at a time-one hour at a time-one day at a time.

Sometimes being physicaly active helps a lot. You release a lot of stress in the process. Also, talking to someone about things that you feel make you sad, angry, etc.. Last bt not least is pray to God ... God is the doctor of doctors .. try him he never fails.

Cultivate a hobby, like sewing, singing, crafting, sports, etc. This will help divert your mind to think about other things.
