The dark suit and white shirt is always appropriate at a funeral. The color of tie is not all that essential. What matters is that it be a conservative tie that in no way draws attention to itself.

I like all the answers about dark suit with conservative tie I read down below.
White Formal Attire is out of place in the Western World. I believe that in India the color white is the color for mourning.
Stay with dark and conservative.

Most people wear dark colors to funerals to signify mourning. Generally this is the way to go. Do you have a tie this the deceased liked in perticular? My husband has a royal blue tie that looks GREAT with his black suit. An Interesting Note.... My best friend has made a request that everyone wear all white to her funeral? and celebrate her life and the fact that she is going HOME to be her FATHER- our LORD JESUS!!!

A darker tie if you have one... Don't wear your bright neon orange, yellow, pink or whatever bright and colorful tie you may possibly own.. Just a neutral or dark tie that isn't too bright or have too much going on (like a big distracting pattern)...
As long as it's a nice tie, that goes well with the suit and isn't too bright and lively, it should be good. I think darker would be preferable... but if you don't have a dark one, and just one that's a little lighter (like a light blue or something) it should work... But I think something like a dark blue would be nice..

A grey-silvery tie is neutral and very appropriate, as long as the suit is in the grey tones. If it is dark blue, the grey might not look right so then you could go with a patterned tie that the same dark blue in it.

A dark plain colour. You could even wear a different colour shirt as long as the tie matched. If you wear another colour wear a darker colour shirt and lighter colour tie.

Wear a black suit, with a dark coloured tie and you should be fine. Just don't turn up in white, bright colours, funny clothes, or clothes that are too casual or else you will seem disrespectful to the departed one.

For men, this means to wear a black suit. If you want to go for tradition, a plain white shirt and a plain (no pattern) long, black necktie. However, there are always exceptions to the rules, no? A black suit with a black turtle neck, black dress shirt with long black tie, black dress shirt(no tie;first button unbottoned), or a black t-shirt (clean, kind of silky) could all be acceptable depending on the family.

A dark colour tie is all that is needed. Blue, Black, depending on the shade of your suit. Some people wear red ties or stripes.
A mate's Granddad died. I wore trousers and dress shirt, and blue stripe. It was summer and quite warm.
