If you want to serve a 'zingy' punch, try mixing some 'grapefruit soda' and some apple juice ... if you want something 'smoother' then I'd use grape juice (white looks better, but 'purple' would work too, if you want to float some pretty flowers - use edible flowers like pansies or nasturtiums) with some 'clear soda' like Sprite or 7-Up. If you want, you can use a good 'sorbet' or sherbet instead of ice cubes, for a sort of 'creamy' punch ... just make sure that all the tastes 'go together' and be sure that you know EXACTLY what you put in, because someone may be 'allergic' to your punch and drink it without knowing what's in it ... so to be 'totally safe' put a small card beside it listing the 'ingredients' ...

Take 1 large can of Hawaiin punch,1 quart orange juice, juice of 4 limes and lemons,1 bottle ginger ale,1 can pineapple juice and some grenadine for color and taste. Float sliced fruit on top of punch like oranges, lemon, limes.pears etc. I do not like strawberries because they break down, get mushy and look really bad in the punch.

Here's my favorite recipe. It comes out tasting like rainbow sherbert. Mix (2) 2-liter bottles of Ginger Ale, 1 carton of Orange Juice, and 1/2 bottle of grenadine syrup. Cut up a few lemon and lime slices and float them on top. They look pretty and add flavor.

Yes, you can make a simple punch with just a clear soda and fruit juice (and maybe sherbet). But you can also kick it up a notch with any of these non-alcoholic punches. At college, we called these mocktails (the last link is mocktails from about.com).

-1 carton of very cold orange-pinapple juice
-pour that over a small carton of orange sherbet in a punch bowl
-add 7-up, sprite or ginger ale to fill bowl

Also a large chuck of ice is nice to keep punch chilled.
