Yeah, umm ... NOW the Dr. decides he wants to pull a wisdom tooth and another to boot - I have NEVER had a tooth pulled. I know they will numb it up during - but what kind of pain am I looking at post-pulling? Do they give you meds to help your gimpy head out?

If the dentist gives you enough Novocaine, you won't feel a thing. Just a little pressure. My dentist gives nitrous oxide as well, so you feel the shots of Novocaine, but you don't really care. Afterwards the pain isn't that bad. Ibuprofen works well, and you might want to use ice packs on your jaws, for the swelling. I wouldn't recommend sedation. Many people wake up feeling very nauseated.

Why worry about it go to an Oral Surgeon and get a general anesthetic, Which in laymens terms get knocked out. While you sleep pain meds are administered even a long acting type numbing agent is given so when you wake up you feel no discomfort, a Prescription can be provided you can get it filled and take it as needed to help with any discomfort you may have if any later. With a general though you will need a driver with you someone that can drive you home, also a iv sedation can be used too if you have no one to drive you home. You may drive your self a few minutes later after a recovery assistant dismisses you. You do get meds to help you manage discomfort. So don't worry dentistry is no longer Midevil.

Yes, they will give you meds. While the tooth is being pulled is the worst part, after that it's just a bit sore. During the procedure, you might get a combo of nitrous and novacaine. It makes it tolerable.

It's the needle that stings for a few seconds but after that you won't feel a thing. It is all over before you know it. Having said that I'm scared shitless of going.
