Ok, so I've known this girl for a year now (met her at art school) and we've already become really close friends. I'm always able to make her laugh and she always brings a smile to my face. The whole time I've known her she's had a girlfriend, but they just recently broke up (citing the last year of her life as "kinda depressing"). It used to be just another unrequited love, you know, "she's a lesbian, there's other fish in the sea, I guess I should start having sex with fish or something". Now she's saying how much she "believes in me" and "supports me" alot and she suddenly starts hugging me and being more playful than usual. Her art has become almost entirely about either one character taking a train to go see a guy and feeling excited about it or another who opens a pandora's box type thing in the shape of a heart. Is she trying to tell me she wants to switch teams for me, or am I just chasing Amy...so to speak?

Like in the movie, you will need to tell her how you feel. It might challenge her sexual preference, but once she gets past that and realizes it's feelings (which are universal), she will find comfort in that and maybe in the harbor of your arms.
Funny thing abut the title "Chasing Amy"---the girl's name was Alyssa. I bought the movie years ago as one of my favorites.

I say go for it. Everything you say seems like she is interested in you. The lesbian thing may just have been a phase she was going through or maybe she wants to test new waters. Maybe you will be the one that turns her around.

your story doesnt give any indication that love is really involved. could be a rebound thing. she could really like you. but dont go looking for love. maybe an open relationship or a 3some if youre talking about getting involved with someone who likes what you like. its bound to happen.
