I have suffered with Epilepsy since the age of 7yrs. It took some time to get them under control but since the age of 21yrs they went completely and i was fit free for almost 8yrs. They started up again in 2006 and nobody seems to be able to tell me why? My medication has been increased but i still seem to having seizures every 4/5 weeks. It is really starting to interfere with my life, worketc.

i too suffer from grangmal seizures and no one knows what caused / causes them it started when i was in fourth grade 2 yrs after a horseback fall that fractured my skull in 2 places.after countless tests and numerous specialists saw me they were dumbfounded so medication was the answer..in my case dilantin 300Mg was making them worse but no one would listen so i lowered my own dose o 100Mg's nightly and they ceased the only time i had problems is when i was highly upset, sudden terror and still flashy lights fireworks ambulances etc..every episode was automatic hosp stay i would actually quit breathing and have been put on ventilator twice. in 95 my exhusb was threatening me about separation..constantly fighting and 6 hosp visits my now common law spouse moved me to n,c. and since 12/95 i only suffered from 3 gs and less than 10 silent episodes i went completely off all med and lived seizure free till 2006 went i fell on ice and received concussion dilantin was ordered and seizures were daily Dr's said it would take time i have stopped meds and have not had one..i steer away from stress and drama and hang with happy mellow people.i wish you the best and by no means do i encourage you to stop meds..i have seizures not epilepsy.. but do take heed to your environment and again best to you and I'll pray for your illness

I saw a TV programme where a girl had an operation on her brain to cut her epilepsy.

I think this would be a bit much for you she was having 20 - 30 fits a week on the medication and almost constantly when she didn't take the medication.

My recommendation is to investigate as to whether there is an outside cause e.g. a food you eat or activity you do. Try doing a diary for a few months and see if there's anything that seems to trigger off a fit, if there does appear to be something try avoiding it and see if that helps.

I dare say it already effects your life so much anyway (avoiding flashing lights at the cinema on TV etc) that a little extra to be fit free would be worth it.

You need to talk to a 'new' doctor, one who specializes in treating people with Epilepsy. Unfortunately you may never 'know' why you are suddenly having seizures, but the LEAST the doctor should do is 'question you thoroughly' and talk to you about the pros and cons of trying some 'new' and 'different' medicines. THE FIRST THING you need to do though is RELAX, because at least part of the reason you're having more 'fits' is because you are STRESSING OVER IT. And I'm sorry, but having one seizure every 4 to 5 weeks isn't really all that bad ... and you may just have to 'learn to live with it' and live your life as best you can. The DISEASE called 'Epilepsy' is classed as a 'disability' but you don't have to 'be disabled' ... just learn to live with your Epilepsy as best you can, and live life to the fullest ...

There is no alternative for controlling your fits, you need to see a neurologist and adjust your medication, you probably need to have an EEG and also a CT scan to diagnose the exact type of your epilepsy..If you get a proper medication and proper dose and take your medications you will not have them as you mentioned you were not having them for 8 years...so medications works and unfortunately there is no other way.....

If it's Herbal Medicine you are looking for, then I'm affraid to tell you that HM doesn't mix with conventional medicine. You have to take either, or, NOT both.
A qualified Herbalist such as myself will be able to help, but we will need a FULL medical history from you berfore we start to prescribe anything.
So, you will need to find a qualified herbalist and make an appointment.

Its no longer very selection i'm afraid... although the subsequent time you sense a headache drawing near, have a good as you could take it & ideally more desirable than you could take it cup of espresso or tea and the caffeine may help to end it in its tracks.

Are you taking dilantin?
You could try it.

Try a diet higher in fat. Some medical journals say it works for children who have epilepsy.
