My father reads it and more and more i'm amazed by the nationalistic/racist stories I feel like im in nazi germany the past few months.??? the oz i grew up in was never like this?

I really don't think the cronulla riots would have happened if not for the daily telegraph urging it all on "our beach" "our land" Racism is normal but I think the telegraph really encourages it - the "US" VS "THEM" attitude.

When I was out yesterday I was shocked when some anglo-aussie kid was trying to punch up a aussie-asian kid because the boy walked past him to fast and brushed against him,the asian kid was completely frightened and trying to get away and he would'nt stop hitting him.

Then today down the st,masses of people have flags on their heads? in my entire life in oz i've never seen people wearing flags on their heads esp in such huge numbers even on australia day-NEVER,not in all my years.Cronulla riot time being the only other time, the daily telegraph being the big force behind it.,

The Herald Sun in Melb is the same (almost).

Those papers and radio stations like 2UE cater for the mass of morons out there (the people who vote for Howard and Hanson). They play the race card - and that gets people excited.

That sells more papers and more air time. And it gets more votes for the Liberal party.

Blame it on John Howard and his scare tactics - Muslim terrorists are everywhere!!!!

they write it. you buy it. they win.

as someone who has lived in other cities, as well as smaller towns, i have never encountered as much racism as here in sydney. it is disgusting.

i have never really attributed this to the daily telegraph, but to media in general as they only show the bad things. When a white man commits a crime and is arrested, he is described as "a 33 yr old man from chatswood". when it is a person of another race: "a 33 yr old muslim lebanese man from villawood". what does their race and religion have to do with anything? it is bizarre. but then this leads to more tension in the community and more racism.

so, no, i dont think the daily telegraph is racist. i think it is trying to sell papers just like any other newspaper. if you want something that is a little bit more diplomatic - buy the australian or something like that. they are generally not quite so sensational in their reporting.

It is a pretty racist rag. Most of the Murdoch down market papers are. Don't know if it is the most racist ever published but I'd doubt it.
