I constantly have to clear my throat or cough, sometimes to the point of getting a little hoarse, and have had this problem for 3 or 4 years now. I've been treated for acid reflux and that didn't help. I have also had my tonsils removed. I've had antibiotics, decongestants, and antihistimines, none that really do anything for me. It always feels like there is something in my throat that i just need to cough up. I can cough up phlegm all day long, but it just comes back within minutes. It gets worse after eating, and physical activity. I want to go to an ENT but am afraid he'll just prescribe something and then send me on my way. I drink plenty of water. What are some possible things that can cause this and things that I can do to fix it. The doctor has mentioned athsma but hasn't tested for it or anything. Is going to an ENT something I should do? I have heard about people getting scopes done, and I was wondering if that could find anything. Any information would be great.

You could be suffering from post nasal drip, this causes you to clear your throat constantly and the more you cough the worse it gets. If you are diagnosed with a asthma, most sufferers have a condition called rhinitis, (hayfever, either seasonal or perrenial)
I have acid reflux and I take Nexium, it is really good. You should really go to the ENT and set your mind at ease, they will investigate it thoroughly.

I have read on some medical site that a cough and frequent throat clearing might be a symptom of your acid reflux. Gases from your stomach rise up to your throat and irritate your mucus membranes. If you smoke stop as soon as possible. If you can afford to, it would be prudent to see an ENT just to rule out anything more serious.

Throat-clearing after it is no longer medically had to sparkling mucus is fairly a kind of voice abuse. continually clearing your throat will reason the vocal cords to swell, making it sense like some thing is stuck in there and also you go with to get it out, even as in truth there is no longer some thing there. I taught my voice-disordered sufferers to count number what number time in 5 minutes they cleared their throat. Many were very shocked at how many times they did it. once you capture your self having the urge, swallow quite. interior some days, your vocal cord swelling will commence to resolve, and must be lengthy gone in about 10 days. do not forget that many behaviors may reason vocal cord swelling, which consists of yelling, guffawing, throat clearing, buzzing, making a song, coughing, loud whispering, and screaming. stay away from all of those, too, and communicate as low as attainable. you'd be ok!
