Finally! Someone asks an intelligent and intellectual question on this site!
This is a topic I take particuar interest in because I think fundamentalists (of any and all religions) will eventually cause the entire downfall of the human race if not the earth as we know it.
I think it's hilarious that people look back on things such as the crusades and talk about how uneducated the people were back then, like we have really gotten smarter since then. (Ha!) Unfortunately the only way to combat fundamentalists is through massive amounts of education about religious tolerance. Why not teach the principles of all religions in school? But of course that will never happen because there will always be 'those' parents who demand their child has a right to pray in school and throw a s***fit if another child wears any other religious symbol claiming 'there should be no religion in schools.' The problem also lies in our choises of presidents, people make such a big deal making sure the man has 'good fundamentals' that they don't care that he is an ignorant buffon.
I could go on forever and ever with this, but I will get to the point. My idea would be to have religious support groups where representatives from each religion come together to talk about their basic beliefs. Not to judge who is right or wrong cause no one really is absolutely right or absolutely wrong. Just to listen. What would be ideal is to catch people while they are young, teach them in schools the beliefs of every religion whether they agree with it or not so they can not grow up to hate other people based on ignorance. Thats my dream anyway.

How to stop fundamentalism? Most people know how to change channels or avoid being preached at, but they don't waste their time figuring out how to stop them. The only ones who want to get rid of them are groups that have agendas diametrically opposed to Biblical morality. I mean after all, what hedonist in his right mind wants his conscience plagued by these hypocritical do-gooders, right? We live in a materialistic world, which in itself is grinding down fundamentalism. Relax, it will happen on its own. Ichabod has been written on church doors for quite a while now.
