I really don't believe that this is an accurate statement. All dogs have different intelligence levels and just because one dog may find it's way home doesn't mean that another dog from the same household could do the same. For instance, do you know that Greyhounds have a terrible sense of smell and if they become lost they will most likely not find their way back home?

The best way to avoid having to have a dog find it's way back home is to keep him in a fenced in yard where he is safe. Hope this helps.

I think because in more urban areas, the surroundings are the same....like a dog can get lost because everywhere to a dog may look the same to a rural area is easier to find its way back, not as much distractions or traffic, etiher.

That's not an accurate statement. There are a lot factors that come into play when it comes to a dog knowing their way home. The intelligence of the dog, how long you have lived at your place, how often you take your dog out to get familiar with his/her senses of where you live, etc.

My older dog knew where she live despite the fact we lived in a city. When I would take her out for walks at our local park and it was raining or thundering she would pull the leash from me and jet off back home. She was really intelligent because she knew what floor I lived on in my apartment building, and which apartment was mine, also to stay on the sidewalk. So I would end up chasing her and she would just be waiting for me in front of my door.

When I moved to a different city she knew where we lived once again. I would take her out and she knew what floor I lived on and which building was my apartment. I knew that she would always find her way back when we would walk.

So there is not truth or accuracy to that statement to me because if my dog could find her way back on more than one occasion while we were living in the city.
