Frankly I read the Reiki Workbook (I think that was the title) and I thought it was a bunch of shine-ola.

An RN loaned it to me, and he also came to the same conclusion. First, it's supposedly started by a man who became disillusioned with Christianity because there were no Biblical miracles going on in the 19th century, in his opinion. [It's too bad nobody told him about this place http://orthodoxwiki.org/Church_of_the_Holy_Sepulchre_(Jerusalem) ]

But ironically I fail to see any kind of miracles in Reki at all! The book's author gave an account of how he was stung by a bee sting (he's allergic). So he decided to fight back instead of give in. He used magic Reki power...and also sucked out the poison (an old Indian trick), took his anti-bee sting medicne...and still got sick. But this time he said, he didn't get sick as bas as he usually did! LOL! It also advises overwieght people to "push themselves away from the table once in a while". Wow! What a revelation! There's a chapter on healing animals too. The author said when animals he tried to heal died it was because they didn't want to be healed. LOL! I think this book sums up what Reiki is all about:http://www.amazon.com/Reiki-Marketing-Healing-Sessions-Workshops/dp/159971535X/ref=cm_lm_fullview_prod_1/002-2361185-9463247

So it's a combination of a little common sense and a lot of wishful thinking from what I see. I say Christian prayer has a much better track record.

I should also mention the founder claimed he derived the "secret" (if fakery could be called a "secret") from Sankrit Hindu texts, and is thus something a Christian should avoid.

Reiki is not a belief system and in no way does it replace any religion or spiritual practice. Reiki is a complementary medicine based upon the idea that there is Universal Energy within us all. It does not take away from God, but works with God depending on how the person believes in God and healing itself. Since we are all comprised of energy, we can all use that energy with prayer and intention to heal ourselves and others.

Perhaps those who forget that Jesus healed and said we all could heal miss out on this opportunity to heal themselves and help others.

Those "religious" catholics are not very knowlegeable about Christianity which is not about your own "power" but the glory of God and being counted among His children. Seeking healing power of your own is always a turn to the devil, or leads to him. Sometimes you learn this the hard way, and for some it will come too late. It is slow but sure seduction into the black arts even if it claims to be "good" healing..

Reiki is not controlled by the Reiki giver. It passes through the practioner, and goes to where the recipient needs it.

What does it matter if they are Catholic or not? My uncle has studied it, and he's Mormon.
