You take it to the vet, you have the vet do a fecal and then let the vet worm the dog accordingly. Do not use any OTC crap!!! It does not work.

flat worms are not an actual type of worm. take a fresh fecal sample into your vet and they can test it to see what kind of worm it is exactly. roundworms will generally look like spaghetti, but smaller. they can have a flat appearance, and are very common in dogs not on heartworm preventative. grains of rice looking segments or a flat shaped worm, that has segments are commonly tapeworms and can come from fleas. take a fecal sample to your vet. and if your dog is not on a heartworm preventative, take your dog in for a blood test to make sure the dog doesn't have heartworms. if not get the dog on a preventative. the preventative is generally $5 a month, and treatment can be around $300. many of the heartworm preventatives will help prevent, heartworms, hookworms and roundworms.
don't get any dewormer from a petstore or walmart type of place. you are just wasting your money. they often only get one type of worm and are not even reliable to get that worm. your vet is your best option, since the dr will know exactly what kind of worm it is and what will get rid of it.

Your dog has tape worms, they comes from ingesting a flea. Fecal test will show if you dog has any intestinal parasites, to the exception of tape worms. The only way to know it is from actually see them on the feces, right after you dog has a bowel movement, after awhile, tape worms tend to crawl off of it, and disappear into the ground.
Take your dog to the vet, have a fecal test done to check for all the other parasites, and then have your vet give a dose of a dewormer called DRONTAL PLUS, it's a one time dose, and will kill any and all intestinal parasites. Get your dog on a monthly flea prevention to avoid any re-infestation of tape worms. Get your dog on a monthly heartworm prevention, to keep it free of the deadly heartworms, and all other intestinal parasites.

flat and not that long: your dog has tape worms. can be cured with a 1 dose pill from your vet. tape worms are usually caused by eating an "infected" flea. which means you also have a flea problem whether you know it or not. that too can be controlled with a once a month treatment of Frontline or Advantage.

You have to examine the poop carefully. But, it's much easier to just give your dog both wormers. Wormer is cheap so cost should not be an issue. My dog has never had worms at if you are careful it's easy to prevent. Flat worms look like linguini noodles only skinny, round worms look different but will look like rice to the naked eye.
If you are in an area affected by heart worms make sure you give your dog heart worm pills. It's a little more expensive but heart worms are easy to contract and deadly.

Hi Blue Breamer!!
I wants only to add:
Round worm infection can cause a range of symptoms from none, to unthriftiness, pot-bellied appearance, vomiting, and diarrhea. Most infected adult dogs are asymptomatic. Then why are we so concerned? It is because the larvae of roundworms cause disease in people. This disease is called larval migrans.
Ingestion of roundworm larvae can cause severe health problems in people, especially children and immuno-compromised individuals. Depending on the species of worm, these larvae can migrate through the skin and other organs, causing pain and/or organ dysfunction. Most cases are asymptomatic.
I would like to recommend to read article: Intestinal Worms -

Round worms look like spaghetti, as horrible as that sounds. Tape worms look like little pieces of rice. None of my dogs have ever had flat worms, but if you do a yahoo image search, I am sure that you will find a picture of a flat worm. In any case, please call your vet tomorrow and get an appt. Make sure to take a stool sample.

i dont think you cant know that youre dog has worms in the body the only way you can find out is takening to the vet for worms checking by the vet doctor . they will tell you that if youre dog do or doesnt have any dieases . there are few ways that youre dog can caught it by playing around on the glass yard , caught from other dogs or cats that is carrying some dieases and spread to youre dog . and last thing can happen of youre isnt healthy is been sick for a while so .

Our puppy had round worms, and the worms looked like grains of rice. A quick trip to the vet for medication cleared it up. Make sure to treat all your pets in contact dogs and cats.

It is tapeworms. tapeworms are actually long. what you see in the poop is fragments of the tapeworm.
Get the dog to the vet and have them deworm the dog. Take a feces sample in with you.
