Apply the golden rule; Do unto others as you'd want others to do unto you. Believe in what you believe and respect other people's beliefs... not our job to say who God will accept.

Promote understanding between religions WILL NOT create any disharmony and problem, self-centredness and closed mindedness are the factors which kill.
Understanding may not mean that one's know the particular religion in depth, but certainly it improve peace and harmony among them.
Patient, tolerance and open-mind are among the factors to promote harmony and understanding among the religion.
I come from a multi racial and multi religion country, it we do not practice patient and tolerance, our country would have be in religion rage by now.

Unfortunately, that's impossible.
You would have to accept that there are other gods that are equal in power as yours. Fanatics despise that idea and won't allow it to happen.
Understanding could to be achieved at a civic level, forsaking religion. Unfortunately, that's Utopian. Reality is that humankind from its earlier beginnings always wanted to look up for superior beings as role models or simply as excuse to justify savage acts against those ignorant of those "beliefs" or simply with different set of values.
Regretably, religion only breeds intolerance.

This may not be the total answer but it would be a big step:
Live your life according to the Golden Rule. Be the kind of person that other people admire for their character. Respect everybody, no matter what, as long as they aren't harming other people.
Sounds promising to me.

Open your hear and open your mind.
Your religion is yours and yours alone.
Their religions are theirs and theirs alone.
Stop nosing around other religions and saying your religion is the right one.
Remember : religions are just paths to reach God.
They may be different in style, but the same in goal.

The commen denomintaor found in all the main spiritual traditions of the world in the chanting of the holy names of the Lord. Because God and His name are the same, people will be able to experience the presence of the Lord if they take up to this chanting process with the masses of the congregation.
"Our father who art in Heaven "hallowed" (holy) be Thy Name"
"Call upon the Name of the Lord and ye shall be saved" (Luke)
"Praise God from morning until night with drums and timbral" Psalms of David
:In this Age of Kali, the age of quarrel and hypocrisy, there is no other way of acheiving God realization, except by chanting the Holy Names of the Lord. There is no other way" Brhad Naradiya Purana
Personally, I chant the Hare Krishna mantra, and have found it to be very effective in giving up sinful activities sucha as animal killing, taking intoxication (including coffee), gambling, or participating in promiscuous sex.
Cleanliness, truthfullness, mercy, and austerity ( taking only what we need, and being willing to undergo inconveniences for the sake of making spiritual advancement) are the four pillars of religion. Every Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim or Buddhist would agree with these principles. So we can begin with discussion on what these principles actually mean, in a practical way.
For instance, eating meat destroys mercy. How can one claim to be following the principal of mercy, or kindness to all ,when they support slaughterhouses. Slaughterhouses create unbelievable pollution to our environment, so it destorys cleanliness, and women who eat meat are proven to have twice the amount of breast cancer.
Gambling destorys the principal of truthfulness, because when people gamble, they think that instead of receiving in life what God is satisfied to give them, or what their destiny will bring them, they can cheat the law's of nature, and get more. People gamble away their children's education funds, lose thier homes, and even commit suicide. The government also uses cheating tactics claiming it is for "charity". Normally people would donate to charity, but because they are being over-taxed, they have lost their charitable spirit, and so have to be cheated to be charitable.
Intoxication destorys brain and liver celss. It is disregard for the temple of the body that the soul resides in.
Illicit sex destroys mercy, because it is the mentality of a predator preying on another, it destroys cleanliness because of all the sexual diseases that are spread, it destroys truthfulness, because of all the broken marriages and dishonesty to one's own higher conduct.
Austerity is compromised by all of these sinful activities All the proteins, carbs, vitamins that we need are found in gegetarian foods. Eating rotting flesh means we have no control over our tounge, so we will not be able to have any other self-control over our belly or genital. They are in a stright line. Alcohol, nicotine, coffee and meat all create an acidic environment which is ideal for cancers and tumours to grow in.
Inter-faith discussions can be organized to bring together the various faiths of the world so that we may discuss these important issues. There is no question of being"religious", which means to obey God's laws , if we are breaking basic principles of human conduct.

everyone keeps saying "why are athiests even here in r&s?" well im athiest and im here just for that- to understand each other. the way I see it is we dont really need to understand each other so much as we need to realize that people are peole and noone should judge anyone by their religion. my friends and I have all differnet beliefs. in fact so do my husbnad and I. people are people! what they believe isnt necessarily what makes them who they are.
