I am a chemical engineer by degree and a process engineer by vocation....I have worked with a few IE's and here is what I know:

- One went into quality and became a quality engineer. He dealt with scrap or rejected material and had to determine disposition. He was also the communication for our factory with the internal customers and suppliers.
- The two I work with now help me with capital acquisitions. They interact with our purchasing and finance groups (since that's where the money is coming from to buy new equipment). They keep the budgets and spreadsheets telling us how much we have to spend. They keep an eye on where capital is within our building.
- Also, another IE I worked with did things like setting costs for how much it truly cost us to make an XYZ (direct labor, indirect labor, materials, shipping, etc.) and assisted with quoting jobs done in the factory.

Hope I helped!
