It is basically about pride. They don't want to admit that they are sinners. They want to think that they can get to heaven without the help of Jesus.
Pride is the mother of all sin and it blinds people from the truth.

because some of us had the courage and determination to question and think freely without the dictates of someone else's
opinion . when did you establish this super being while voting for
honest old Nixon or some other blind faith speaker . Sorry I'm just not so gullible and naive . if being a rational reasonable law abiding good hearted person makes me a bigot for realizing the foibles of false beliefs than at least good reason is on my side for I don't condemn all who see the light outside your box of what I consider false teachings . So I ask you the same what is so hard
in breaking free from the primitive narrow minded beliefs of the past : for a better future of reason and fact where the guilty are punished in confinement now rather than after death in the imagination of the holy hallucination.Next time the pedophile tortures let him go free and await gods judgment ?no I couldn't in all conscience go with the unconscionable faith of the phony god.
peace out

Why does this remind me of the scene where the officer brings his head in line with the prisoner's, whips the cigarette holder out of his own mouth, squints through his monocle and pleads, "Why is it so hard for you? All you have to do is sign this little piece of paper admitting you are a spy and all of this will go away! No more torture, no more bright lights, no more screaming. Just sign, admit your crime, and we'll let you go!"

Some people feel that the whole notion of recognizing previously unrecognized guilt and acquiescing to a dominion that is admittedly "not of this world" could be a little manipulative. Instead of apologizing to God, why can't we just apologize to the people we wrong? Instead of acknowledging our powerlessness, could we not form alliances withh each other and work cooperatively? Why does everything have to be mediated through an invisible deity? Can't we use our own brains to solve problems? Under these circumstances, such a prayer would hardly be "honest".

Asking for forgiveness is pretty straightforward, but the other three are metaphors which arrogantly assume that those being asked the question are running on the same set of assumptions and images as the asker.

Hint to evangelists: speak straightforward English, and avoid meaningless cliches, no matter how often your preacher has tried to drum them into your heads.

Also, "4" is a numeral. Using it in that way makes you look dumber.

The implications of that prayer are huge. It requires, in essence, becoming a different person. It requires sacrificing much of what an individual finds personally pleasing and comfortable. There is much that the average person enjoys doing or finds easy to do that conflicts with the teachings of Christ. And there is the awkwardness of living a Christian life amongst those who don't. Christians are given a hard time for denying themselves what the average person takes for granted.

I don't need his forgivness. When I make a mistake I make sure I don't do it again and ask the person the mistake was directed against for their forgivness.

Maybe it's hard for to accept Jesus because I believe that people must live for themselves (not selfishly, mind) and determine themeselves what is right or wrong. I cannot be told by any person what to believe and disbelieve. I will decide for myself. That is why I cannot accept christianity, they try to tell me what is right/wrong and true/untrue.

Because Jesus is a myth made up by the capitolist religion pushers, to make people think thier sins are forgiven so they can get thier money. If everyone just tried to live your life good hearted, and caring, then they would not need a made up idol, and accepting whatever fate is given. Idol... Hmm Put no other god before me... Oh yeah, can't have that, THe father son and Holy Ghost are the same. So God punished himself??? shall I continue

It's simple. You're describing mythology. Even your language drips with metaphoric dribble.

If, as I do, you don't believe God exists, that Jesus, if he existed, was a preacher who at times taught love, but was also a poor deluded fellow, and that there is no reason to ask for forgiveness when there is no one to offend, then your "honest little prayer" becomes a dishonest exercise in self-loathing.

Probably for the same reason it's so hard for you to accept that we're all different, and for you to accept the faiths of other people. When you can accept the tenets of my faith, then I'm willing to accept yours. Is it really so hard for you do say a simple Jewish or Hindu prayer? It goes both ways, my friend.

Because I am good for the sake of being good to my fellow human, NOT for some eternal reward. I want to make this one life I KNOW FOR A FACT that I have worth everything and to be an inspiring and loving and GOOD human being.

The fact that I've made a difference here on earth by my acts of kindness are all I need to feel fulfilled in LIFE and DEATH.
