To quote verses one does not understand may still profit the person listening or reading, as they may understand. And it should not be assumed that all who quote verses do not understand what they are saying.

If the listener knows the meaning and understands the spirit of the verse, it would still profit the listener. The Bible says that "God's Word shall not return void." It will accomplish something when given.

I agree. Christians themselves need Bible study to understand what they've been reading, as do Muslims when the read the Quran. I keep reading quotes like this from the Quran mentioned by other religion and most of them are written out of context.

It doesn't. Of course, the question contains the implicit assumption that the verses have some sort of useful meaning, which is not necessarily true.
