I always carry my mobile with me and I would call either the Salvation Army or St Vincent De Paul to help this person . We have one in town and if he comes up to my son or me and ask for some money we give him some to buy something to eat and drink. LIke the saying Charity begins at home

God Bless You

What do I think when I see a drunken bum on the street?

Well, my first thought is to go to them and ask if there is anything I can do to help them, but then my *logical* side of my brain takes over and says "No, stay away, cause most BUMS will try to take you for everything you have!"

If they are drunk and a bum then they are not worth my time and effort. If they don't care about themselves, why should I care about them?

How can anyone else love you, if you don't love yourself?

Well when I meet a homeless person, I offer to help them (not just give them money). On a few occasions I've purchased them lunch and helped them find a shelter (if they let me). I don't judge them and think of them as a "dirty, drunken, bum". I don't know what lead them to be homeless, the ones I've talked to always have tragic stories and you would not believe how many children are homeless and living on the street. It's sad.

I think..too bad he is not tired of his current state in life and hope he goes and seeks help at many of the government and non profit agencies that help the homelss and needy..
like get him to the Salvation Army, they will clean him up, give him shelter, food, clean facilites for his needs, clothing, and all the counseling/mental health services/medical help he needs to get his life back on tack..
they will also help him find work and eventually to live independantly..

too bad more homeless do not take advantage of it, the thing is, if they do, they can not drink or do any drugs or they will lose their free services..basicly their free way of life...untill they are 100 percent willing to get clean...

I agree with Mamadukes answer.

You never know what has happened in their life. Sure they are probably addicted to alcohol but what caused it.

We have to remember that the book on any ones life is not yet written.

There is no guarantee that our life at any time could take a different course in our journey through life.

I feel bad for them.

I freaked out a friend of mine in college when I let a homeless guy (he wasn't drunk, I don't think) clean my windshield at a gas station near campus.

I gave him my last 5 bucks.... I hope he went to get something to eat. The poor guy looked like he needed it.

Honestly, something a stranger said to me in an elevator in San Francisco always comes to mind... "I am two bad decisions away from being that guy."

I think that. And I feel humble.

i may be very hard core Christian but the bible states if a man doesnt work he shouldnt eat that being said when i see them most ,maybe not all i wonder why they have to be so dirty and bumming my first thought is there is water that God has put on the earth that would at least clean enough to clean yourself some, people go swimming in it i wander are they really needing my money to eat on or do they just want a hand out

We don't have many in our small city, but I feel really sad for them and pray for them. I gave cash from my tip money to many on the streets when I was in Tijuana, Mexico one time.
