This central site allows you to request a free credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, once every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion
You have to pay for your credit (FICO) score, though.

Be very careful. You will have to give SS numbers and such. A lot of personal info that you would not want to get into the wrong hands. Go to your local bank or credit union and see if they can help you first. If not, go to a reputable car lot and pretend you are buying a car. They will run a credit report if that is all your wanting.

don't use freecreditreport.com. They require you to sign up for a service.
The ONLY place to get all three free is http://www.annualcreditreport.com
By law, all three credit reporting agencies have to supply you with a free report each year. The above site will do that for you.

EDIT: I see plenty of others have beat me to the punch!
By the way, I have used the services at that link and yes, all the credit info was absolutely free. However, if you want your FICO score, you do have to pay for it. But still the free service is good for making sure there are not suspicious accounts open in your name.
