I got a monroe piercing back in August 2006, so I've had it for a while and it healed fine. Lately though, I noticed that on the inside, a little flap of skin from the inside of my lip has torn away but is still attached. I think it was because of the backing or something, because its just this little clump of skin that came off but is attached at one point. What the hell is going on? There's no pain at all, I actually took off the jewelry today to see what the heck it was, but I didn't want to rip that little flap of skin off tho. Anyone ever had this??? please help!

I think you may actually be experiencing the start of an embedded labret. Not a very common occurance, but it can happen if the jewelry you are using is too small, too tight or just too harsh for your mouth. It might also just be the jewelry rubbing too much and tearing the skin. Either way, not good.

My guess is that the jewelry you are using is metal. I know many people who have had the same problem and they switched to a bio-plastic stud and the problem went away.

I would talk with your piercer since they'll be able to see the area and best tell you what is the cause of the problem. But check out the following link for a good quality bio-plast stud. I use them and they are wonderful and cut down on gum and enamal damage.

Good luck.

it sounds iek your monroe the labret is possibly emmbedding into your mouth!

take a look at this link! but go see your piercer and see what he/she can do for you! this could be dangerous. not to mention painful.. but a infection is usually excessive swelling. pain. yello or green discharge. do you have any other that? it sounds liek it could be embedding but i am no expert. you soudl go to your piercer as soon as you can they will have the right answer for you
