I've never had one but I know women who have. Three got pregnant and had spontaneous abortions because of the IUD. One of the women I knew got pregnant but didn't miscarry, instead the IUD caused what the doctor called an "Internal abortion" , she became son infected and had so much scar tissue that they had to do a total hysterectomy...she was 23 years old. That was her first and last pregnancy.

Love my Mirena IUD. Its super-low hormones so that shouldnt be a prob. It lasts 5 years, and wont affect your fertility if you decide to have another child. Can throw your period off for a while, but after a year, many women have lighter or no periods. The Mirena is THE safest and most effective birth control on the market, and even has a lower pregnancy rate than getting your tubes tied. All the IUD horror stories you hear are from the old IUDs that were unsafe. Its a great choice, and one that should be offered to women more. But alas, the doctors and prescription companies prefer to push the pill because it costs more in the long run. Do some research, ask your doc about it, you will like what you hear. Just remember that its the Mirena one that is safe and effective.

I LOVE my IUD! I have had it for 3 years and never once had a problem. It has been 100% effective for me and i would defiantly recommend this to you in your case.(plus i didn't gain weight like i did with the depo shot, and you don't have to remember a pill.)
* A lil FYI though.. be aware of the possible complications. It may save your life just in case something should go wrong. IE: if you can't feel the string..Go to the hospital right away. I personally have never had complications, but clinically it can happen,I tell you this just so you are aware of the good and the bad.
Oh.. and a lil note to your significant other.. You can feel the string during intercourse, but it isn't painful, It just takes a lil getting used to the occasional poke.
(don't worry.. i asked my bf and he said he doesn't even feel it anymore. He said " it was just weird at first to feel something else there")
Good luck and hope this helps your decision.

I had the IUD taken out last November after 5 years only because i am trying for another baby it was the best form of contraception i have ever used, the only down side was having it put in it was a bit uncomfortable but in comparison to having a baby it was nothing i would advise anyone to have it.......... but like anything in life it doesn't suit everybody.

i had a mirena iud put in a few years ago and got an extreme infection while it was being put in, i had it in for 7 months, with no fertility problems and having gotten pregnant before the iud in record time, it took 2 1/2 years to get pregnant after that, and i'm still having problems with my pregnancy. look into all birth control options before going with this one.

I really liked my IUD. If you have multiple partners though, it can be very bad. I developed PID and had to have mine removed because of an STD. So if your with one person, great. More than one, NO WAY!!!!
BTW, my IUD was the older kind, a copper one. Those new ones have hormones!

Many people don't have any problems at all. I had to have it removed because of the complications I had. I personally don't suggest it. I had my tubes tied but not cut. But, I didn't want anymore children (but I can have it reversed). If you still want more children, you may have to try several different types of birth control. Everyones body reacts differently. But that depo-provera is bad news, I've know a lot of women to have problems with it.

I had the non hormonal copper type and it made my periods very heavy and long (7-9 days) and caused very painful cramping, especially at first. But I had never been pregnant. Maybe your experience will be better. Oh, and it hurt very badly when they put it in.

I personally do not have one, but two of my friends have it and they swear by it. There is a little string that kind of hangs down that you have to check every so often to make sure it is still there, but other than that, everything seems to be fine with it. Their spouses say you cant feel it. Hope this helps!

If you ever want to have more children, it may not be the best of ideas. It can scar your uterus up pretty bad, and you may have a hard time getting pregnant again when you are ready.
