first of all you would have to have medical doctors verifying that your condition is too severe to work. Then if they feel you should go on it, then they will advise you of what next steps to take.

It depends on how severe the disorder is, how long it is expected to last, and if your doctor believes it is a complete disabling illness.
SSI is for low income disabled people, SSD is social security disability which is not income based. To learn more about it, go to

You do not want to put in an application until you are certain that your doctor can confidentally say your mood disorder is causing you total disability, and you cannot work for some time. It is a complicated process- but if you are truely disabled, and have several doctors and documnetation to prove so, it can go smoothly.

You can apply if you wish, but now days, they are getting tough for people to get SSI. You have to really be in such a bad shape having ANYTHING to get SSI. If there is anything thing that you can do, employment wise, you will find it hard to get it. Almost everyone can do SOMETHING for a living.
But hey, give it a shot! Be prepared for a long wait though, it's tough.

yes u can get ssi for an condition that is a disability mental and physical that affects your ability to work . go get paper work at local social security administrative office or go on website.

DEAR FIRST GO TO YOUR DOCTOR GET THE PAPER WORK FILLED OUT MAKE HIM SAY YOU ARE UNFIT TO WORK AND AT LEAST (60%) DISABLED AND HANDICAPPED GET A SSI LAWYER YOU WILL NEED ONE BECAUSE THEY WILL SEND YOU TO ONE OF THERE DOCTOR WHO SAY YOU ARE NOT AND GO TO WORK AT A FAST FOOD PLACE. I KNOW I HAVE BEEN THERE DONE THAT UNTIL MY FATHER GOD ME OF SSI AND ON OLD PEOPLE'S SSI MEDICARE AND MEDICAID YOU ARE IN FOR THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE GOOD LUCK DEAR YOU WILL NEED IT TAKE CARE
