Yes, its a good place to live. Long Island is close to everything while not being too near the "bit city" . You have farmlands in rural areas on the east end and large scale shoping malls too. One can explore the maritime shipping villages or dine in the most exclusive resturants. Go to the ocean or canoe down a river in peaceful serenity, hike the Green Mountain Trail or check out museums as it's all up to you. Its expensive thats true. Long Island is rich in history, as well as up to date high tech adventures. The climate is moderate due to the ocean breezes keeping warmer in the winters and cooler during summer. ( oh yea, a native islander wouldn't know a real live redneck if one ran them over in their truck ! ahahahah )

Depends what part... I'm kind of the opposite as you. I was born on Long Island and lived there until my senior year of high school, & then I've moved to Florida and I havent moved back. I lived in New Hyde Park. It was pretty safe there, & Mineola, Garden City Park, Plainview, Farmingdale, Hicksville, Great Neck, Huntington and Dix Hills are pretty safe as well. Most of it is actually safe and a great place to live. Its just like anywhere else, some good parts, some bad. I honestly felt safer in New York than I do here

Long Island is a great place to live! It's got everything you need within a mile of where you live. There's always something open and close by. You've got beaches and parks and something for everyone. Its a really close drive or train ride to the city. It's pretty expensive, even for apartments, but I don't mind, its way worth it. Once you live on the island, its hard to go anywhere else!!

If you can afford it... Only 2% of the homes there are affordable to those who make $100K a year or less.
