It could be the type of food. If you took away the dry food and it stopped, it's likely the cat is having an allergic reaction to something in that food. I would suggest getting a cat food for sensitive cats.
Edited to add - if it's hairballs you'll know it for sure. It will look almost like a turd but once looked at up close, you'll see it's hair. And usually very little food and some stomach bile will come up with it.

I would find another vet; or, if that's out of the question, ask your present vet to do some more testing. It sounds a bit like reflux vomiting; it could be something like pyloric stenosis (a narrowing of the tube that leads to the stomach); or a growth that's inhibiting the deposit of food into the stomach. It could even be something as simple as a large hair ball. (Ask the vet if you can just try a simple hairball remedy to rule it out.) Either way, it needs to be checked out further. Your cat isn't getting the nutrients it needs to thrive and grow and could become malnourished.

If you had a vet check him out, and he's clear.. then it could be non-medical reasons.
Try changing the brand of food he gets. Maybe the stock you are getting your hands on are old and it's upsetting his stomach.
I had a cat who would eat like a pig and then throw up. I tried everything until I finally decided to give him smaller portions throughout the day instead of leaving it to him to decide him much he would eat at one sitting. He stopped throwing up.
Clean his bowls everyday and never feed him any biscuits that have been left out for 24hours. Fresh food should be cleaned about 2hours after you put it out for him so it doesn't go bad.
I hope this helps.

I concur with all the other answers: food, hairballs, stress, worms, etc. Your vet would have tested for worms, so try some hairball remedY: you can put it right on thei paw. Imagine all the fur those poor babies swallow.
Hopefully there is no intestinal blockage, but if kitty is using the litterbox regularly for #2 and it is not watery, chances are good it is not that. Good luck! And don't give up!

you can change the cat foods into solid cans foods instead if youre cat cant swallow or eat any dry cats foods anymore. then maybe will help youre cat not to throw up . have you ever try to gave little bit of fish tuna to youre cat ? if not then you can try to have youre cat to taste some of it maybe will stop or the foods you re giving to youre cat all the time isnt good anymore might be old food taste diffferent then eatting something new for once . i have a cat who lloves to eat anything like dry cats foods , solid tuna cans food or mixs with ham or turkey for lunch . he eats it all . but if its not the foods that cause him feeling sick then i think you should take him to another vet center like a petsmart shop where they do help the pets owners how to take care of their sick animals by giving some good avices instead listeining to a wrong answer from a vet doctor . cause not all doctors says same things . so try go check out to a different doctor in diffferent places. maybe next time if youre cat feel different or sick you can change youre cat vet center and go better one .

It very well could be hair balls, my cats used to throw up alot then I changed their food to one that helps control hair balls. I would also get a second opinion from another vet, there could be something your vet missed. Ask some friends or neighbors who they take their pets too to get a refferal of a good vet.

it could be the food's problem, maybe you can get advise from your veterinary to see which cat's food is suitable for your cat. There is I/d (science plan) in the market which is meant for sick cats. Well, there are many possibilities why your cat is vomitting, if your cat keeps consistent vomitting it's better you take your cat to the vet to check his condition because your cat may suffer from dehydrated so your cat may need to be dripped to keep some moisture in his body otherwise he will collapse. It could be Panleukopenia virus infection (viral infection), kidney failure, diarhear or constipation problem that would caused a cat to vomit regularly. Please get advise from your local vet as soon as possible because your cat is sick if you say he has been vomitting regularly.

Maybe he has hair balls. Try getting a hairball formula catfood. If that doesn't work they have hair ball remedies in the pet section in stores. Also try to keep him brushed at least a few times a week.

Did you try giving your kitty some oil? We gave ours tuna oil and she threw up a big hair ball. That was her whole problem and then she was all better. If you dont have tuna oil, just a teaspoon of canola would work. The vet told us it will loosen it up.
Good Luck for your poor kitty.
