I will never understand it. It is not like I am an old person, I am just your average seven-teen year old... minus all of the "latest" technologies. I still have a CD player, had it since the 6th grade and it works like a charm. I do not see the need to go and buy an ipod that will break in just one year. Cell phones are OK I suppose, just for talking on the phone. But all of these phones with all of that crap on it is just OVERWHELMING. I mean, do we REALLY need all of that crap on a cell phone? Why are people so quick to throw away things when a new version of so-and-so comes out? Don't even get me started on those razor phones!

It is all about creating a desire in consumers. It is how business people make money. Give someone famous and prominent in younger circles your product, BAM! instant desire to have the latest gadget.
I'm not saying it's right, but unless you are a total genius you aren't gonna be able to stop it. You are up against millions and billions of dollars that are out there telling people if you don't have a swoosh on your shoe, or basketball jersey, you ain't cool.
Take it for what it's worth, you're not the only voice against it, but you have a lot of opposition from the big money companies.
You can onlyl hope that maybe by your example some of your friends realize that gadgets and the newest shoes don't make the person.

Too be cool, you have to look cool. You have to be up to date with your cool devices to be on top.

Plus they are more convenient and have better sound, reception, and quality.
