no, not if you have them spayed. but not all do. but it seems to be more common in chihuahua's. personally i think it's because of all of the backyard breeders breeding them, since they have become the dog of the day, people are trying to make money off of their pet. if you are thinking about breeding your female and she is under 4lbs, not registered with an acutal club like akc or ukc, has not been health and temperment tested and is not a good representation of the breed, or has any other problems, then don't breed her. have your dog spayed. it's best for her and her health in the long run.

It's not a "chihuahua" problem per se, all of the toy breeds can have problem delivering babies, due to their tiny built, and pelvic bone. I agree with someone else answer about not breeding anything that weight 4 lbs. and below, but rather use a smaller male for the breeding. And even then, problem can surface during labor. Always do responsible breeding, to include keeping a very close eye to the mama dog when she gets closer to the approximate due date, having ultrasound done in late pregnancy, checking the dogs temperature, etc., in case she would be in labor too long, and no pups, typical sign of the dog not able to deliver, in which case she has to be rushed to the vet for a C-section immediately, or risk to lose both the mama and the litter.
If you think about breeding you dog, make sure she gets a thorough well check up first. You vet will be able to assist you in making the decision.

No, not all. The female should be over 4 lb and should be bred to a very small male. Even then, sometimes they have trouble. You are better off with a 5-6 lb female and a 3-3 1/3 lb male.

i have a chihuahua.....and i heard they have a hard time and could even die from having babies....most of them do have complications...either for the mother or the puppies....im not risking it with my baby...and gettin her spayed....i rather have my little girl than use her to make a few quick bucks....also i heard from the breeders that i got mine from that they werent gonna breed anymore because the two litters that their female has in the last 2 years was really starting to affect her health....and they didnt want ot lose her to an early death from health problems......hope this helps =)

Small breeds have a more difficult time than do large breeds.

Please think long and hard before breeding when there are so many homeless dogs out there. If you are a true animal lover, you will not add to this ongoing problem.
