I think people generally stick with their own social and economic class. If you think about way the way we tend to date from middle school onwards to college and above, it seems that they do. I think usually men marry down since they like to feel like providers. These days, things are different and some will not consider one's economic class. Some people are comfortable enough that it does not bother them. So, if you want to date someone in another social and/or economic class, go for it. If they say no, at least you tried.

It depends on the culture. It is generally practiced by many to date, romance, and marry within their social, cultural and economic class. There are two main reasons for this. 1) Peer pressure and 2) Better odds to meet others exist within ones circles.
Of course there are always exceptions.
