i recently adopted what the humane society called a german shepherd mix at 8 weeks. we got her because she looked a lot like a german shepherd but as she gets older shes looking more and more like a begal not to mention has her nose to the ground constantly when outside. so my question is one is it even possible to breed the two given the huge difference in size and two why the heck would anybody want to? i mean were happy with her and love her to death but i guess im just curious if there may be some reason for it.

I doubt the breeding was done on purpose which is why the puppy was in the pound. Some really bad owners didn't fix thier dog and then they didn't have enough smarts to keep thier dog in the yard.

Pound puppies are the best.

Spay and neuter your pets!

Just because she has her nose to the ground doesn't necessarily mean she's got beagle in her. She could be mixed with harrier or foxhound which are two close relatives to the beagle, but are taller. And 1 possible reason is they were hoping for the beagle hair which is much easier to manage than the long hair of a shepard

Rottweiler and Chihuahua can breed but if the smaller breed is the female having the puppies can be dangerous i doubt that this was an intentional breeding, most likely just a female in heat and the odd ball male strolled by at the right time.

Most likely it was not a planned breeding. Most shelter dogs are "accidents" b/c the female was not spayed and was out during her heat cycle and was impregnated by a wandering male. This reason along with the thousands of dog in shelters is why it is so important to get our dogs "fixed" - to stop the cycle of unwanted puppies that turn into unwanted dogs that eventually will end up in shelters and unfortunately will be killed. Let's all stop the cycle !

it is possible for dogs of different sizes to breed in fact ther seems to be more unusual cross breeds around these days then pure breds.the most likely scenario is irresponsible pet owners who dont desex their animals. i have a cross breed dog myself that had been dumped because no one wanted her. i think its a disgrace and i feel sorry for the animals. im glad your cross bred mutt has a good home. so few animals do!!!

Someone's dog probably got out when it was in heat or the male dug under the fence or something crazy like that........ummm.....it had to have been an accident..............could have been the pup of a homeless dog too. Thats happens alot these days because people just dont care.

Lot's of unethical people cross breed dogs on purpose....it shouldn't be done, it's stupid and unethical and all they're in it for is the money.

However some owners are irresponsible and don't secure their dogs properly or have them desexed so these 'mishaps' happen.

I don't think most people would cross those breeds. Sometimes dogs have their own ideas and hormones get in the way. WHere there is a doggie will , they will find a way.

I don't believe it was an intentional breeding! There are strays! And there are people who do not take care of their animals, and just let them roam where they want to go.
That is how we end up with all sorts of mutts!
