Traditionally a man is the provider and head of the family. Therefore, He is expected to be mature in the relationship and maturity was connected with age. Not that I agree with that but basically we have moved on with a lot of things but that one.
Its not wrong to have the opposite though because we are more independent now as women

Women mature faster than men, just a fact of life, proven by many studies, but as you get older it changes some, I'm 48 and seeing a 32 year old. It's great. Once you're grown you are either mature or not, and that might never change. It becomes more about compatibility than age. Though I do get some looks from people who seem to think I'm a dirty old lady. LOL
As far as younger guys w girls in high school, it seems like the girl gets joked for it. Unfair but the way it is. Go figure.

Not for me, I have always (just about) been with older women, even in High school. My G.F. now is only 3 weeks older, but still older, some have been as much as 6 years older. I am a big guy, and have been since, like 15, and I Matured early, Hair and stuff, and have always been a little wiser than my years, they tell me., So I guess girls found me to seem older, I dont know.

It doesn't always work that way. I'm 40 years old, and every woman I've had a relationship with has been older than me.
Women aren't the only ones who find maturity attractive. Some of us guys do too!

It usually does work that way but my current boyfriend is almost 4 years younger than me.
I think part of picking older is men is from tradition, gender differences in maturity, looking for a "protector" subconsciously, and things like that.
It is more frequent for the man to be older but it is not always the case!

Usually it is out of tradition or the fact many women like their men to be a little older than they are because of maturity issues. There are some relationships out there where she is older than he is. There are probably more of these relationships (She is the older partner) than it is advertised and known.
Of course, if you are talking about May-December (20+ age difference) romances, there is clearly a wide disparity of younger women/older man partners than younger man/older woman.

It's a psychological thing. It is widely accepted that women generally mature earlier than men. Therefore, a younger girl is usually, not always, on the same level as an male a couple years older than they are.
And, generally, when women date younger men, it is because they can usually control the younger man.

because of the maturity factor.
Guys @ 15 and girls@15 have nothing in common most of the time.
A girls maturity level is usual more grown up then a boy her own age, so hence , younger girls are attracted to older guys because they are generally on the same level as they are.

It is true in a lot of relationships.
But not in mine.
I started dating my guy when he was 16 and I was 17.
We are coming up on our 25th wedding anniversary in June.
Most of the time it is maturity level, girls mature a lot faster than guys. So girls like to date guys older whom are more mature.

I believe the other poster was correct some women/smart women are attracted to maturness, and stability. On the other hand some older women who want to deny the fact that they are on the down slope, old and withering try and date younger guys and live in denial all the while their liver spotted strech marked pasty white *** tells the whole story. Look at Demi Moore :)
