I would like to give him a light dose of sleeping pills for the trip .....should i buy them now and try it with him first ! ???? That's a REALLY REALLY bad idea. If you want to give him something because he gets upset when he travels, for God's sake get it from the vet. I agree that you should find a different way to get there, one that allows you to take ET with you. You're just asking for trouble in more ways than one here. You could easily end up with a dead dog if you try this. Or fines from the train company. Or a lawsuit if he bites someone on the trip. Or he could overheat from being inside your sweater too long.

And if it didn't work the first time....why in the hell would you try it again????

Giving a chihuahua human sleeping pills can definitely kill it! Human sleeping pills go by weight and seeing as a chihuahua weighs but 2 to 6 lbs, those pills would be lethally too strong. You need to call your vet and ask about a sedative made specifically for small dogs and dosage amount. You should never give an animal meds without consulting a licensed veterinarian.

I would strongly recommend that you do not give your dog human sleeping pills. Call your vet and tell them that you are flying with your pet and ask them if there is a sedative they can give your dog. It is very likely that your vet will give you some kind of meds that are for humans but in a much smaller dose and a different variety since drugs effect dog differently than humans. Be very careful when self medicating your animals since your dog is such a small dog you might kill him.

You said it all in the first line - VERY small. People meds are not for dogs or any other animals. If you must do this consult with your vet to see what they can give this baby. Most vets will be sympathetic to your situation and may just give him a light tranquilizer. Please don't try any meds that have not been given to you by a vet. You seem to love your dog and I'm sure you would like him to arrive at your destination alive. I would find another means of transportation

you need to talk to your vet about this. you can kill your pet with human sleeping pills. is there another way to get your dog to where you're going? you're opening yourself up for trouble for you and the dog but doing this. rules are rules for a reason, and just because you have a small dog does not give you the right to break them. but never give your dog a human pill of any type unless your vet has told you to do so.

Surely you are kidding - right?
It's not a good idea to give a dog sleeping pills - he very well may die.
Either you can take a different route of transportation - one which allows dogs.
Or, you can give your dog a kiss goodbye - cuz this nap may be his last.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! You are not for real, right? Give me your name and address so that I can come rescue that poor animal before you kill it.

Only give dogs dog medication. NEVER NEVER NEVER give them human medications without talking to a licensed veterinarian. And you wonder why it didn't work with your other dog. Is he even still alive??????

No snoozing tablets - you will kill him!! If the nails can not wait till his dental, there are textile muzzles in all sizes (tiny ones too) which you slip over his muzzle so he can not bite - you may convey your guy or woman or ask Petsmart in the event that they have them, they might desire to be waiting to handle somewhat chi. I actually have a 7 a million/2 pound long hair dachshund who gets loopy whilst her nails are performed, so the muzzle is particularly handy - attempt it.
