Your friend should start exercising more and eating less -- it really is as simple as that! She should cut back on junk food and focus on eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains (whole wheat bread, for example), lean meats (chicken and fish, for example), and low-fat dairy (which can help increase your metabolism). She should start adding as much exercise into her day as she can -- it doesn't have to be actual "working out" all the time, but instead can be just adopting a more active lifestyle in general. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, get off the bus a stop or two early and walk the rest of the way, go for a brisk 30 minute walk every afternoon after school, do stomach crunches while watching TV at night, etc.
Focus on getting healthy and the weight-loss will come as a benefit to that. She's lucky to have a friend who wants to support her -- you guys can go for walks together after school and gossip and chat, and then you'll be getting exercise AND having fun. Perfect combination!

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span. No food or drink in between the food and not more than three meals a day, unless u r diabetic.

Start walking half an hour a day and build up to an hour. Cut out junk foods, especially sodas, except for one cheat meal a week. Focus on eating two fruits and three vegetables a day, plus lean protein like chicken (no skin), grains and beans. Don't eat fried things, like donuts. Then, she can also get a video on how to do crunches, like one of those 7-minute a day ab exercises. She should also check out her BMI online to see if she's actually overweight or just out of shape.

She needs to stop eating junk food and switch to diet soda. Eliminate desserts and candy.
Go on long walks with her. Also put on some music and dance with her to it.
These things should help her to lose weight a lot.
