Is there anything I have to be aware of? I'm doing the general anethesia. Is there anyway I can be prepared to the things before and after? What does it feel like once you are awake and ready to go home? Do you feel dizzy? Do you think I can do anything tomorrow but maybe awake a few times after I come home from surgery since chances are I'll probably be taking a LONG nap. Do the needle hurt. I'm just wondering, but do you think that general anethesia is better or IV sedation? I don't have much confidence because out of all of my friends only one has had their wisdom teeth removed. I'm only 13 (remember)...

Is IV sedation the same as general anethesia?

You're lucky to get them out when you're young, you'll heal faster.

See if your dental surgeon will bind your jaws; that can reduce swelling and bruising, and you'll be more comfortable and heal faster.

I've had general anesthesia several times. It doesn't make me dizzy, just sleepy and sometimes nauseous. I've always had it through IV, is your alternative a gas through a mask?

Yes, the needle will hurt, but only for a moment, and not all that much.

Plan on staying home and resting. You'll be tired and you need to heal. Good luck!

Don't worry, no matter how bad it is, it will all be over in a few days, and in a month you'll forget all about it.
You'll feel a little dizzy and will need to be careful while walking, but that won't last long. When you get home, take a nap and that will help a lot.
Don't wear any of your favorite clothes. You may drool a little and you don't want to ruin a good top.
The needle will hurt but only for a moment.
I don't want to scare you, only talking from my own experience, I've been put out twice to have teeth removed. And believe me, there are definitely a lot scarier things in life.
Just be calm, try to relax, and plan to take it easy over the weekend.
Hope all goes well!!!!!!

Think of it as a vacation. Ya it kinda sucks that you have to go through minor surgery, but you get to sleep as much as you want, and have as much cold stuff as you want.
First, make sure you shower before you go...my appointment was for 8am, so I skipped the shower. BIG MISTAKE you may not end up showering again for a day or so... cuz ur kinda out of it
Second, the needle really isn't that bad, I much preferred that over anything else. It's kind of like a one two three you're out deal. Not a big deal at all, don't worry.
Third, on the way out, you're only half conscious...like just waking up except you don't really fully wake up. You know what's going on, but it's nice to have someone help you walk to the car...it's a pleasent feeling :)
Lastly, you'll probably get prescribed oxy-cotain (perks) or demoral (a form of morphene) both have codeine in them, which may not work with your system (a LOT of people I know have had problems with it, myself included) if that happens, get Ibeuprofein...you can buy it over the counter, and I promise, it worked WAY better for the pain than the other two (without the side effects!) If you feel any pain that you don't think is normal...TRUST YOUR GUT and get it checked.
Otherwise, you're in for a nice relaxing week or so...there will be swelling, just make sure you don't have to speak to or see anyone...Enjoy!!!!

My son is much older than you, but he had three wisdom teeth's pulled last Friday. He was knock out with the IV, and he said that he knew nothing. When he woke up he felted a little snore on the side of this face. The doctor give him a prescription of pain and antibiotic to take for five days. He was told not to eat any solids until the next day. Nutri-system liquids, jello, puddings, yogurts, and foods that are easy to digest without chewing.

You will be fine, relax and everything will come out fine.

Regards, I am a Pediatric Dentist. I normally don’t do this, but I thought I could help. Extracting wisdom teeth at age 13 is hardly justified! If the wisdom teeth are asymptomatic; meaning they are not causing any symptoms such as pain etc, then extracting them is not justified. Sometimes Orthodontists recommend extracting wisdom teeth at the end of the orthodontic treatment to prevent the relapse of treatment (mainly crowding of the anterior teeth which is normally associated with the eruption of the wisdom teeth), but even if that is the case, at 13 years those wisdom teeth are not developed enough to be extracted easily (they tend to roll like a ball when you try to take them out of the jaw bone) Some dentists think it is easier to extract them at this stage because they are smaller, but that is very wrong. I really can't see how you could justify subjecting a 13 years old for such a surgical trauma. Please reconsider your decision. Seek second opinion from a Board Certified Oral Surgeon. Please take this seriously.. You can e-mail me if you need further clarification.

general is a good choice, total ignorance of the event. Little ouchie when they start the iv, after that its gravy until you wake up, semisitting with ice on your jaws. Try to stay semisitting for the first day or so, plenty of ice, youll have pain meds dont be shy about taking them. At your young age you should be up and around the next day, dont get silly though take it easy.

I recently had all four of my pulled, and I was eating solid hot food the next day, and only took 2 of my pain pills total. It all depends on how much you can tolerate when eating. I was basically numb (my mouth) for a couple hours after the surgery.
