I went in for oral surgery friday, 1/19 at 12pm.. the dr said to wait 7 to 10 days before smoking again.. to avoid drysocket.. i really need a smoke though, so i was wondering what the chances of me getting drysocket at this point are?♥?

I smoked the same day. I just made sure I had gauze covering the extraction sites and took VEEEERRRRYYYYY light drags off my smoke. Its the sucking part that will break the blood clot free and cause dry socket. But as others have said, try to quit now if you can. I almost wish I did.

It's tempting to say "forever", because smoking is so bad for you. But, I've never had that craving, so it is hard for me to say.
While I don't know what it's like to need a ciggy that bad, I do know what dry sockets feel like and I can't believe the craving beats the pain. Dry sockets are like child birth times a thousand.
If you can use this time to quit, bravo! It only hurts a little to give up a tobacco addiction - dry sockets are agony!!

The concern IS dry-socket. No one can really answer the question for you but this is 6 days later - One more day will not kill you. What about nicotine gum?
