This is gonna seem crazy but when you get desperate enough you'll do it. Ok, you get on your hands and knees and spread your fingers apart then stick out your tongue like your tryin to touch your chin.

there is only one way to help that and that is with a tea called "Throat Coat" its made of slippery elm. you may want to use a tea bag of that AND either chamomile or peppermint as well in the same cup and add some honey if you like sweetener with that . you can find it at your grocer. its soothes the throat instantly . Vocalists use this home remedy often as well. i wont use anything else myself. get a box to have at home it is a natural remedy nothing artificial added just like great - granny used to make :) ahahah ( yes a warm salt water gargle will help tremendously in killing off the bacteria in your throat causing it in the first place)

Eat a tablespoon of honey. Not only will it soothe your throat, but it will also help combat any bacteria in your throat brought up by all that coughing.

Also, Delsym is the BEST cough suppressant you can buy over the counter. Ask any pharmacist, they'll tell you the same.

Gargle warm salt water helps a great deal, and Robitussin DM or something with dextromethorphan in it helps a cough. If its worse or lasts more than a few days, - if it's just at night, could be bronchitis. Violent enough for whooping cough?? Serious - Need a doctor if more than few days especially. Fever?

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. More details and home remedies available at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html
