Yes. Prepare for each class. Make sure you're up to date on the assignments and the reading _before_ you walk in. Prepare questions to ask the teacher.
Because what's probably happening is that you're falling asleep because you're frightened, and you're frightened because you feel out of your depth in the class, and sleep is a method of escape from an untenable position.

Many schools have club and/or homework schedules that are unreasonable and pretty much force you to not get enough sleep; it's ridiculous. You could try cutting out one or more of your clubs, but it doesn't sound like that's an option for you. Do you fall asleep right away or take a long time to fall asleep? Falling asleep more quickly will help you to get the most benefit from your time in bed. Make sure you don't do something in bed right before sleeping, like reading or watching TV. That relaxes you just enough so your body doesn't feel it must sleep. Do homework, talk to someone, read the newspaper or something not too exciting. Make sure you've had adequate exercise and sunlight during the day. That will help you to sleep better at night. If there is no way to change your lunch period, force yourself to have at least a snack during lunch time. A high protein / high energy bar may help, or half a sandwich and a piece of fruit. Food IS a body's fuel. Just as a car won't run without gas, your body won't run without food. As tired as you might be, you wouldn't fall asleep if you were watching or listeing to something really exciting. When your brain is engaged, it doesn't get tired. So okay, your teacher and the subject are not fascinating. But try to listen harder than you normally do and find some relevance in what the teacher is talking about. Find SOMETHING interesting about it. Make sure you're actually hearing the words, because that's the only way you'll have a chance to find out what's in it that's interesting...why the teacher finds it important enough to teach. Participate in class. By asking questions and participating in discussions, you stay more focused and more awake. Your last resort would be home-schooling, where you can sleep as late as you want and, in most cases, study what you find interesting. But it sounds like you are very involved in your school and like that would be a sacrifice. Can you do some of your homework during a study period? Can you convince your school to make club hours shorter or earlier? Could there be a school policy to reduce homework load on days of or just before big club events? Talk to your guidance counselor and school principal and see what you can come up with. Many recent studies have shown that today's teenagers are severely sleep-deprived. Schools need to do something about it. But until they do, hopefully some of my advice may help.

You might want to ask the teacher/Professor before hand, but usually they will say it's OK. When you feel like nodding off, get up and stand in the back of the room for a few. Take what you need with you of course, but just get up and stand for a while. Most Prof.s won't mind.
Eat right, especially in the morning, try not to party too much. get good sleep. (You know, you don't need to get alot of sleep to get good sleep). When you go to bed, stop thinking. Your brain needs to rest to recharge. properly.

i have yet to find the trick. Snacking or having a beverage helps a little but it's hard to make it last for an hour long lecture.
