infarcted is loss of all bloodflow

necrotic is dead tissue

ischemic is loss of oxygen (from decreased bloodflow)

Gas gangrene is actually a bacterial infection of something called Clostridium perfrengens (or other Clostridial bacteria) it is a severe life and limb threatening disease. It usually requires immediate amputation AND whopper antibiotics. And even that doesn't work all the time.

Ischemia -- decreased blood -- flow can evntually cause infarction -- acute tissue death due to complete cessation of flow, often by clotting.
Gangrene in this setting is referred to as "dry".
Dead tissue is referred to as necrotic.
Amputation prevernts the spread of the breakdown products of the dead tissue.

"Gangrene" is the medical term...it is caused due to the death of tissue (necrosis) in part of the body. characterised wiz:Discoloration (blue or black if skin is affected; red or bronze if the affected area is beneath the skin), Loss of sensation (which may occur after severe pain in the area), Foul-smelling discharge.
