Most people say that it is best to wean them naturally, especially since the World health Organization says you should breastfeed until 2 years old.

On the other hand, if you feel the need to wean right now, check the second website.

At six months children normally can sleep from 8-12 hours at a time so I think it's about time to wean him/her.

I let my son "cry it out" for a few nights. If he cried more than five or ten minutes I would go into his room, pat him, sing to him, let him know I was still around, and then went back to bed. It took about three nights for him to completely be done with night feedings. This is what worked for me and it may not work for you. Make sure you find something you are comfortable with and s/he will be too! Best of Luck!

Easiest thing probably is to let your husband partner deal with it if you are breastfeeding as she will want to drink if she see's you. If you mean bottle feed, then offer water in a cup. Be prepared for some bad nights but she will get use to it and in less than a week life will be back to normal.Once you make the decision stick with it. or she will just know next time scream long enough and i will get it.

I was told by my daughter's Dr when she was about 6 months old and not sleeping through the night to only offer a bottle of water at night (if you are not breastfeeding)....eventually, her body (I guess) found it useless to wake up for water.

This is also how I broke her of her bottle at 11 months old- water in bottle only, milk/juice in sippy cup.

Make sure your child is very full before you put them to bed. When they cry at night them give the a pacifier and check them to see if they are wet, and put them back to bed. It will take several times to do this, but the trick is to make them realize that you are not going to keep getting up at night to feed them. Babies are a lot smarter than we think they are.
