I am thinking about purchasing a chicken for a pet, but am not sure if it is legal to do so where I am living. I had a couple chickens and ducks when I lived in PA, but it was a rural area that was allowed. I am now living in GA, a surburban type neighborhood with a quarter acre of land. Is this allowed or not? I am not looking for farming several chickens, just having one as a pet. Thank you.

usually not. Chickens are concidered livestock. I know that some people were having trouble with the potbellied pigs in city limits.

Call animal control. If it's a violation- they would know!!

You would have to check your local codes. Look on your city's website (if they have one) or call animal control, they'll tell you.

I live in a suburban area with 4 1/2 acres with chickens and ducks, and the law here is that they're only allowed if nobody complains :)

i dont know i dont even had a chicken for a house hold pet before but i had duckies and gooses and another animals where i used lived before but i wasnt living like a farmer or either own a farm land actually i was living in a normal town and has a neigh bor hoods but i had raised wild animals and keep them for pets at home . but if you want to raise and keep the chickens as a normal pets then i think you should get a sigining forms with something that allow you have and do own them and its okay to keep them as a pets with a proved liensces papers from the law office or from youre vet doctor . but you can try ask somebody who work with the GA law or who work at the state and ask them if its legal for having chicken living in the house with the owner.

Your city or township government would be able to tell you. I raise chickens, many people have them in the city. Often, a family can have three hens (sometimes more) but no crowing roosters. All roosters crow, you'd just have to keep only hens. Some breeds DO make wonderful pets! I raise a rare heritage breed of chickens that are very large and gentle - wonderful temperaments and I consider them pets! Also see my quail site - you could probably keep them inside as pets as well. We keep a Button Quail in the house and adore her!

I think it need to be on a leash and muzzled so it not peck someone.
Actually, above some good thoughts. Call Animal Control or your County Extension Office. One should know or tell you who to call to be sure.
Remember; A Rooster will crow and a hen "May" crow attempting to draw a rooster if she not have one. So, may be a slight problem with the neighbors, even, if, it OK to have the chicken.

Hi there. Go to your local phone book and call your local animal shelter or animal control. They will know the laws in your area. Good luck and have a tweet year. If you still have trouble, call a few avian vets. They will know for sure.

In maximum cities that's ok to stroll your poultry off the leash. do basically no longer choke your poultry, you will get arrested for that. I walked my dogs off his leash spectacular in front of the policemans homestead. i became truly pushing it, yet he's a stable dogs. i've got been education him for basically approximately a 12 months and a nil.5 now. he walks spectacular beside me and turns as quickly as I do. We get to a corner and end to look for vehicles and he stops and sits until I deem it secure and he crosses with me. He ignores yappy little canines that run around the line to bark at him. He surpassed his dogs stable Citizenship try, so he's a stable boy! he's likewise 70 kilos of puppy! yet spectacular now he's laying on the floor, farting...
