She doesn't like it.
Try adding Perrier or Evian.

I don't think there is conclusive research on this phenomenon, but dogs do it too. No obvious sense to it! Just get a bottom heavy spill proof bowl, but be very prepared for her to actually make an effort to spill the bowl, i.e. dig at it and work like a crazy cat to flip it.
Call me crazy, but I resolved this issue with one of the cats that I have had by getting bottled water. Sometimes the water seems to have some type of taste, chemical, odor, etc. that is not to their liking. Try different brands and maybe a Britta water filter.

My cats do the same thing. They like to play in the water, contrary to popular belief. I got a tray with a lip around the edge, and put the water bowl in there.... that way when they spill., it is contained. But try a very heavy dog bowl as the other fokls said, the very heavey ceramic kind that is flat on the bottom so they can't tip it. They will still splash a bit tho, they like to wash their paws sometimes!

As others have suggested, I would get a bowl that your cat can't easily tip over.
As an added suggestion, you may want to fix up a larger container of water sometime and see if your cat just likes to play in water. That may be the reason she keeps tipping it over. My cat always jumps up on the bathroom sink anytime anyone goes near it b/c he likes to play with the water. Just a suggestion - might be fun to watch also!

Sounds to me like she's doing it for fun. Cats don't prefer one type/brand of water over another generally - usually their owners do - so I doubt she's doing it because she "doesn't like the water!" She could just like to get her feet wet and play in it. I've had cats that liked to reach in and play with bath water. Just get her a heavy or wide bottom bowl so she can continue to play with the water and you don't have to keep mopping!

my cat spilled his water from the bowl too. he was always jumping up to the sink to drink from the tap also. so we thought it must be "moving" water that he liked. we bought him a fountain water bowl at petsmart...it was only about $35. he loves it and has stopped begging for water from the taps and no more water on the floor. i think the fountain also encourages him to drink more water, which is a good benefit also.

It's because of the type of vision a cat has. A cat needs to see movement of the water to see the distance of the water. Some cats just dump water onto floors because it's easy to lick it off floor..then sticking their noses into it...

Several choices- Doesn't like taste of water , If it's a plastic bowl that doesn;t help, Boredom or just plain picky. My cat has to drink out of a glass because she doesn't like her dish.

CATS RULE!!!!!!!!!! It is for fun. When you change the water make sure you wash the bowl. You don't like drinking out of a dirty glass. Cats are clean Dogs aren't They don't care what they drink out of. Or what they drink.

try filling the bowl with ice and then letting it melt. Mine used to attempt this too, yet they stopped. ultimately they're going to understand more effective powerful as this is their source of hydration. yet exceptionally if it really is a clean kitten it would want to take a even as. a heavier bowl is likewise a sturdy change in the adventure that they could't knock it over.
